Haberdashers’ Abraham Darby has a strong rugby history in the local and wider community of Telford and Shropshire. With eight committed rugby coaches and seven playing pitches, we are able to consistently develop our students to the highest standards both on and off the pitch.
The main aim of Abraham Darby Rugby is to provide students with the very best rugby opportunities; seeking to develop personal and team skills, provide discipline, inspire hard work and endeavour whilst offering new horizons to show our young people that there are genuine career and life opportunities when their formal education finishes.
We play fixtures between September and March; these fixtures include 15 a side and Sevens games. We are unique in being the only state school in Shropshire to offer a highly competitive Saturday school fixture list. Last season, we played fifteen weekend fixtures against some of the strongest independent schools in the North Midlands.
Players will train twice a week as minimum, with senior teams involved in strength and conditioning sessions before and after school. This summer will see the completion of the weight training facility.
Haberdashers’ Abraham Darby has strong links at club and County level and we work very closely with Worcester Warriors. We consistently send players through the DPP pathway into their Academy and are involved as coaches with the squads.
Central to all the above is our desire to foster a love for rugby that enables students at all levels to continue to play into the future.
