House System
Aims
Before each student arrives at Academy he is put into a House. The Houses do not have an academic or pastoral function. Their primary aim is to involve all students in a wide range of curriculum enrichment/extra curricular activity. The Head of House is the person who will have regular contact with a student throughout his time in Academy, in weekly House Meetings.
The House Championship
House activities for students in Year 7 - 11 include rugby, soccer, cricket, cross country, athletics, basketball, netball, rounders, chess, dance, drama, music, public speaking and debating, Geography, Maths, Poetry, Tennis. The aim is to involve a wide range of students in activities, not to put increased pressure on those in Academy teams, and the programme of House Competition (which again can be found in the Academy calendar) is organised accordingly. By involving all students in House activities we want them to feel involved, to feel part of their houses and to be getting kudos from their participation. We will also provide them leadership opportunities and encourage them to develop those traits which will enable them to be successful in the Academy and in their lives.
Once again House activities are considered an integral part of Academy life and students are expected to attend for both these and after Academy practices. Permission to be absent from either will be granted in exceptional circumstances if parents request in writing, giving as much notice as possible.
