Extra Curricular Music

The Abraham Darby Bands have for a long time been quite outstanding.

The Bands are split into the 3 sections - the Junior Bands which serve younger students including a significant number from local Primary Schools, the Middle Bands and the Senior Bands which includes some students who have left the School and are at Sixth Form Colleges. There are up to 100 students in each section which have within them Concert Bands, Brass Bands, Jazz Bands, Woodwind Groups etc.

 Peripatetic lessons, which are all free, and Band practices take place in lunchtimes and evenings throughout the week and in particular on Saturday mornings led by the Director of Music and a small group of dedicated peripatetic staff.

The Abraham Darby Bands have built up a national and international reputation over the past 10 - 15 years for the standards of their bands.

 Senior Bands have played at some of the finest concert venues in Great Britain and the world, including the Royal Albert Hallin  London,  the Royal Festival Hall in  London, Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, Symphony Hall in Birmingham and Carnegie Hall in New York.

In the past 15 years they have performed in Austria, Bahamas, Belgium, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Switzerland and the USA.

The Showcase Concert in Carnegie Hall, New York in March 2010

The bands also do a lot of community and charity work locally.
