Business Studies
Business Studies is offered as a subject in Key Stage 4 and the Sixth Form.
In Key Stage 4, students are introduced to the business world through the OCR National Level 2 course in Business. After completing 3 units students will achieve the equivalent of 2 GCSEs. The 3 key units studied are:
• Investigating Business: This involves finding out about the different types of business and their links with society.
• People in Business: Students research the Human Resources function. They investigate recruitment and training methods as well as how different businesses deal with industrial grievances.
• Communications: In this module, students describe different methods of communication used by business and assess the implications for the future of ICT in both business and society.
The department places high importance on the need to form and evolve industry links. At present, links have been forged with the following businesses:
• Epson (Hortonwood),
• CapGemini (Telford Centre),
• Posh Nosh (Shifnal),
• AFC Telford (Wellington),
• The Grand Theatre (Wolverhampton),
• Alton Towers (Staffordshire)
• Cadbury World (Birmingham)
• Jaguar (Birmingham),
• Chelsea FC (London),
• Wolverhampton Wanderers FC (Wolverhampton).
Every student will be offered the opportunity to take part in at least 2 related industry visits and are encouraged to develop their communication skills via presentations, interviews and group work. "Business standard "quality is expected from all students as the department aims to successfully prepare its students for the world of work and further education.
