Art and Design
All students at Key Stage 3 study Art & Design Curriculum for 1 hour per week. We have designed our projects in line with the National Curriculum with the objective that every child gets to the end of Year 9 having explored a wide range of media and techniques, and have knowledge of a variety of Artists and Art Movements. At present in Year 7 students begin with the basics of colour and exploration of Abstract Art, followed by a multicultural jewellery making project. In Year 8, pupils develop drawing and shading skills and explore Art Nouveau and then Aboriginal Art. Year 9 begin with perspective drawing and then create masks in response the Green Man legend. All projects are supported by ICT, the department has its own ICT suite and interactive whiteboard.
At Key Stage 4, students follow the AQA specification for the single GCSE award. Students work with a range of media including ceramics, Photoshop, printmaking and photography. From September 2009 we will also offer a BTEC qualification which on successful completion is equal to 4 GCSE's, here students work to given briefs and have a closer link to Art & Design in the workplace.
From September 2009 the department will be offering Art & Design at AS/A level again with AQA.
