I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the Head of House for Darwin and welcome you to part of this wonderful team.
I am tremendously proud to be the Head of Darwin House and will continue to build on a culture of loyalty, passion and respect that us Darwinians have regularly displayed in all Academy life. Darwin House will continue to work hard and collaborate in all that we do, this will build a strong identity, ethos and bring our family closer together. Our senior students will be an integral part of driving this ethos and supporting all of the Darwinians young and old.
We stand by a motto of “Conatur ad excellentiam” meaning strive for excellence. This is at the heart of all we do in life, I encourage every member of this House to push to be the best that they can be and strive for excellence in all disciplines. Charles Darwin is famous for his theory of evolution and that how we must constantly adapt to meet the changing needs and circumstances presented to us. Darwin stated that “In the long history of humankind (and animal kind, too) those who learned to collaborate and improvise most effectively have prevailed.” In previous years Darwin has not enjoyed the success that this great house deserves and myself and my team are going to change this. We deserve and have the abilities and desire to compete for the House Cup. Success has already been seen in winning the House Cross Country.
Life at Abraham Darby Academy offers all of our pupils such a wonderful opportunity to participate in a range of activities from music and the performing arts, sports, chess, murder mystery and more. We in Darwin make the ordinary, extraordinary and always drive to excel in our various disciplines. At the same time I want us all to have fun, make life-long friendships and support each other. We will experience a lot of change in our lives and a strong House, such as ours will best equip us for this journey. Charles Darwin famously said “It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who will survive but those who can best manage change.”
