All Year 10 and Year 13 students are expected to undertake a work experience placement in 2018. All work experiences are now 7 working days in total
Placement dates for 2018:
Year 10:Monday 9th July – Tuesday 17th July
Year 13: Monday 3rd September – Tuesday 10th September
This is an important part of the work related learning programme. It is also designed to give the students a greater insight into the world of work and working as part of a team within the rules of the work place.
Placements do fill up very quickly as other schools and colleges in the area will also be undertaking their programme at the same time. It is therefore vital that the required paperwork, consents and checks are carried out and completed as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
The Academy, however, does reserve the right not to place a student on work experience, whose behaviour, attitude and/or attendance has been considered unsatisfactory during the year. This decision is not taken lightly and parents will be notified before work experience if this is the case.
Work experience placements will be assessed for health and safety suitability by Education Business Links (EBL) who require up to three months’ notice in some cases to carry out appropriate checks. Students will not be placed with a provider who has not been approved in this way. There is an online database with approved employers within the Telford & Wrekin area (via careers advisor). These employers are keen to help students gain valuable experience, however they prefer students to make the approach themselves rather than parents/carers/teachers etc. where possible.
Students will be expected to make their own way to the placement and the cost of transport should be met by the student’s family. If there is a problem with this, then please approach Mrs Chadwick to discuss alternative arrangements.
